Why Your Fit Body Leads to a Phat Life

Sometimes I find myself scrolling through the highlight reel of Insta, checking out posts from other fitness pros, and I’m just in awe. Great bodies, perfect form, all of them encouraging us to live our best lives. I find them inspiring; I truly do.

But I can also see how they might be intimidating. I’m in great shape. I feel good about where I am in my life and what I’m doing, and I can still hear that judgey little voice in the back of my head saying, “You’re never going to look like that.”

You know what? That little voice is probably right. I’m not going to look like that. In fact, 99.99% of the world isn’t going to look like that—including a lot of the social media influencers whose posts make you think they woke up that way. (To their credit, more and more fitness pros are sharing that truth, like Shannon Thigpen. Definitely check her out!.)

More importantly, there’s something the judge in my head doesn’t know: health isn’t about your appearance. It’s not about chiseled abs and a perfect booty — so neither is Fit Body.

So What’s Fit Body All About?

Let’s start with a little honesty. It’s definitely nice to have a six-pack, but that’s a byproduct of fitness, not the endgame. Our true goal is to have the energy and strength to do the things that make our lives full like:

  • Playing with our kids—or grandkids!
  • Traveling to new places
  • Taking part in our favorite activities

Whether you want to ski that black diamond run or just enjoy walking your dog, you can do it with a fit body.

A Fit Body Story

People always think that getting older automatically means slowing down, but it doesn’t have to be that. If we can find ways to energize our aging bodies, we can live full meaningful lives well past what you might expect.

I want to share a story about one of my clients who really found how vitality and strength helped her live more independently. Karen came to me in 2014 fresh out of knee surgery and hoping to lose five pounds. While she already exercised and ate healthy, elevating these habits helped Karen lose 15 pounds!

The real cool part of the story? She:

  • Feels confident when she skis or hikes
  • Skips over boulders without a problem
  • No longer has any waking back pain
  • Can take care of her aging parents who are still living in her childhood home

And even though Karen lost 15 pounds, she’s decided to keep off just 10. Why? Because she gets these benefits and can enjoy a cocktail or a sweet now and then.

That’s Living the Phat Life

Karen made a choice seven years ago that has allowed her how to stay vital and active, and it’s going to help her live independently even as she ages.

Is your body picture perfect? No. Is it going to be picture perfect? Hell, no. But it can be the vehicle that moves you through your phat life! It’s never too late to start creating your fit body.
